Neutrons for a sustainable future
Prof. Dr. Thomas Brückel
Juelich Centre for Neutron Science JCNS and Peter Gruenberg Institut PGI

Examples from JCNS research will be used to show how neutrons can help advance energy technology to address the climate crisis, information technology, and health. A vision for longer-term research with neutrons in Europe will be presented, based on accelerator-driven neutron sources. In this scenario, our flagship facility, the ESS, will be supported by a network of High Current Accelerator-driven Neutron Sources (HiCANS). We will present the layout of the German High Brilliance neutron Source (HBS) as the most advanced and ambitious project within the European HiCANS network.
